Protective stains 'shield hard wood garden furniture sets from the elements'

13/10/2010 Protective stains are a great way to keep your hard wood garden furniture set in top condition during the winter months, it has been suggested.

Ronseal explained that this is just one of the steps that should be taken to prepare an outdoor space for harsher weather conditions.

Following the big freeze last year, temperatures this winter could reach as low as -20 degrees C, according to forecasters.

A long-lasting protective stain will help prevent "cracking, splitting and discolouring", the company explained.

Similar steps should also be taken with decking, using a specialist stain which will help protect the wood against "rain and frost damage, whilst resisting cracking and peeling".

Writing for the Daily Mail recently, Martyn Cox explained that it is often best to store hard wood garden furniture sets indoors during the winter months to prevent weather damaged.

If this isn't possible, he recommended placing the table and chairs on bricks, to prevent water damaged to the legs, and protecting them with a waterproof cover.  ADNFCR-3488-ID-800113653-ADNFCR
