Enjoy bird watching while reclining on your garden furniture set

15/09/2010 If you like to watch British wildlife while relaxing on your hard wood garden furniture set, then a birdfeeder can be a good investment.

However, a recent survey by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) found that Blue Tit numbers in gardens are declining, possibly due to the modern birdfeeders being used.

In the past 30 years, the number of Blue Tits seen in gardens assessed by the Garden Birdfeeding Survey dropped from 5.3 in 1970 to 3.1 today.

Tim Harrison, BTO Garden BirdWatch development officer, suggested that those who wish to continue to watch the birds while relaxing on their hard wood garden furniture set should revert to the birdfeeding techniques of old.

"...Where once the supple dexterity of the Blue Tit would have been king – feeding on monkey nuts threaded on string, peanuts in a mesh feeder, coconut shells stuffed with fat – modern foods and feeders mean that Blue Tits face stiff competition from other species," he explained.

If you're planning to continue using your hard wood garden furniture during the winter months to watch the UK's wildlife, then you should give it a new lease of life by coating it in teak oil, the Tallahassee Home and Garden blog suggested recently.  ADNFCR-3488-ID-800065908-ADNFCR
