Cushions 'the perfect match' for patio furniture

29/10/2010 Online shoppers have been told that, whether they opt for a traditional hardwood garden furniture set or a more contemporary aluminium design, cushions can make an outdoor living space more homely.

Writing on the Nawbo blog, furnishings expert Owen Jones said that while wood and metal are ideal materials to create strong, hard-wearing patio items, they sometimes need extra padding for comfort.

"If you are purchasing new garden furniture, you might get throw cushions supplied. If not, and you want to buy outdoor cushions at the same time, check them for 'waterproofness'," he advised.

Mr Jones went on to explain that, while a hardwood garden furniture set will be strong enough to withstand most wet and windy weather conditions, cushions will quickly show signs of rot if left out, unless they have waterproof covers.

Earlier this month, the expert suggested that whether patio items need to be lifted inside during the winter depends entirely upon what they are made from.

He advised those with wooden chairs and tables to place them under cover where possible, though a high-quality hardwood garden furniture set should be robust enough not to require shelter.
