Visitors to Dunstable school fete enjoy BBQ and VIP chef guest appearance

01/10/2010 A school fete and BBQ in Dunstable was opened by celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli.

The fete featured a tasty BBQ, three tombolas, a bouncy castle, a coconut shy and lucky dips, Dunstable Today reported.

Also on offer were a variety of stalls and fun activities for children.

VIP chef Novelli joined Dunstable mayor councillor Mike Mullany for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to begin the Glenwood School event.

A large queue of visitors turned up to see the opening of the school fete on Beech Road.

A day for two at the Novelli Academy Cookery School worth £2,000 was donated by the chef as a prize in the auction.

The day ended with a speech from head teacher Shirley Crosbie. According to Andrea and Mark Pollard, of the Friends of Glenwood, around £3,000 was raised at the event.

This month, events such as BBQs, food tastings and mini-festivals are taking place across the UK to celebrate Organic Fortnight.
