Top tips to cook perfect meat on a gas BBQ

08/10/2010 If you're planning on lighting up the gas BBQ this weekend, then there are some top tips that can be followed to make sure your meat is cooking perfectly.

Speaking to abc15, Allan Avila, from Lucille's BBQ restaurant, said the old adage that meat should be falling off the bone when it is cooked is, in fact, wrong.

"The meat is done when you can bite into the meat and it comes clean off the bone," he explained.

"Meat should not just fall off of the bone - that means it has been overcooked."

You also want to make sure you have enough food to go round all your guests. Mr Avila recommended one pound of meat for every three guests if you're planning on making sandwiches.

Research conducted earlier this year by the Tony Ferguson Weight Loss programme and Boots found that, on average, people eat an entire day's calorie allowance in one sitting when they light up their gas BBQ.
