Opt for healthy foods on your gas BBQ

11/08/2010 If you're on a diet, you might want to pay attention to how much food is on your plate when you're cooking on your gas BBQ this weekend.

Research conducted by the Tony Ferguson Weightloss Program and Boots found that on average men and women consumer 3,500 calories and 2,500 calories respectively each time they attend a BBQ.

Despite this, some 41 per cent said they simply choose to forget the calories and just enjoy themselves at BBQs.

According to the research, the average person eats two sausages, one and a half burgers, two chicken drumsticks, one and a half meat skewers, fish, a baked potato, a side salad, pasta salad, a desert and a bowl of fruit salad each time they light up their gas BBQ.

However, Brian George, president of the National BBQ Association, told the Express that the food we eat on the BBQ is changing and becoming much healthier.

"A typical barbecue used to be a burnt sausage covered in petrol. We are now more likely to have a swordfish than a sausage. Barbecues are now more gastro," he explained.
