Follow food safety guidelines when cooking on a gas BBQ

27/08/2010 There are a number of safety tips that you should follow if you're going to be lighting up your gas BBQ this bank holiday weekend.

Ensuring that food is properly cooked and is at the proper temperature all the way through is just one part of making sure your BBQ goes without a hitch, according to WSAW.com.

It's important to make sure food is thawed thoroughly before placing it up the gas BBQ, as this will help it cook evenly.

All food should be kept cold before cooking, even if you're planning on transporting it from the house to the beach or a picnic area, the news provider advised.

Many people choose to marinade their meats before grilling, and the news provider recommended putting some of the sauce to one side before seasoning the meat for use when cooking later.

"Poultry and cubed meat or stew meat can be marinated [for] up to two days. Beef, veal, pork, and lamb roasts, chops and steaks may be marinated [for] up to five days," it added.

If you're looking to make your BBQ a little bit healthier, follow the advice of Sarah Giles, editor at Easy Cook, who recently recommended trying to purchase burgers and sausages with a higher meat content, as these are likely to contain less fat.  ADNFCR-3488-ID-800043894-ADNFCR
