Brits to expect gas BBQ weather this weekend

07/10/2010 This weekend could be the ideal time to light up your gas BBQ, as the UK is expected to experience temperatures topping 20 degrees C.

Forecasters are expecting unseasonably warm weather over the next few days, with MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, predicting a 22-degree high in London.

The Met Office has forecast even higher temperatures with the possibility of 24-degree heat in some places.

John Hammond, a Met Office forecaster, said: "The lion's share of the country will be fine and dry and with temperatures of up to 24 degrees C. These highs are due to the wind becoming more south-easterly, bringing with it more desirable warm weather."

Northern regions and Scotland are expected to be slightly colder, but people should still be able to head outdoors and light up their gas BBQs with temperatures in their high teens.

Just remember to follow food safety guidelines if you're using a gas BBQ this weekend.

The Irish Independent highlighted earlier in the year that raw foods should always be kept separate from cooked foods and should only be taken out the fridge at the last minute.  ADNFCR-3488-ID-800104314-ADNFCR
