BBQ rounds off sponsored walk charity event

30/09/2010 A BBQ was held by Goring, Woodcote and District Lions Club at the end of a sponsored walk.

The event raised almost £350 for charity, Henley Standard reported.

A five-mile walk was held in support of the Sue Ryder Care hospice in Nettlebed.

Those taking part in the sponsored event met at Goring lock and then walked to Hartslock Nature Reserve.

Plenty of activities for children were on offer including a treasure hunt.

At the BBQ each walker was presented with a certificate and prizes were awarded to the three highest-scoring youngsters.

"Although we could have done with more walkers, it was such an enjoyable event that we have already decided to organise another one next year," Acting Lions president Jon Solman told the news provider.

A recent event held in Scarborough to raise money for the Help the Heroes charity also included a BBQ, with all voluntary contributions from the BBQ being donated to the charity.
