New gadget to help garden furniture owners care for plants

14/10/2010 Brits who like to view a bit of greenery while relaxing on their cast aluminium garden furniture set, could get help from a new gadget.

Japanese company DoCoMo is helping those who are not particularly green fingered, with a new device that offers advice on how to care for their plants.

The wireless sensor from the company is designed to be placed in the garden near where the plants are growing.

It then collects data about water, sunlight and soil conditions, which is transmitted to gardening experts, who then get in touch with the owner via text or email, providing advice about how to best care for their plants.

The device could be ideal for those who take a low-maintenance approach to their outdoor space.

Cast aluminium garden sets are a great option for those who don't want to spend much time making sure their table and chairs look as good as new.

The Home Improvement Guidelines blog suggested recently that people who don't have much time to spend in their garden will find "the thought of doing nothing to [their] garden furniture, apart from [giving it] the occasional 'hose down', quite appealing". ADNFCR-3488-ID-800116458-ADNFCR
