Update your metal garden furniture set with a lick of paint

05/08/2010 A lick of paint can breathe new life into a metal garden furniture set that is looking a little worse for wear.

According to power tool manufacturer Dremel, restoring your metal garden table and chairs is "easy" when you follow a few simple steps.

First, it recommended scrubbing the furniture with a wire brush or power tool with an abrasive brush head to remove give the new paint a good base to stick to.

"This will also help to cause loose paint to flake off, identify any areas of rust around bolts, for example, and allow you to brush away any green moss or mould that has been growing," Dremel explained.

After this is complete, you should use an abrasive buff tool to sand down around the edges where any flakes of paint have been removed to create a smooth surface for the new paint to be applied to.

The last step before applying a new coat of paint is covering the areas that have been smoothened with a metal paint primer.

Garden designer Michelle Wake recommended recently that anyone looking to update their outdoor space should start by sprucing up their permanent features, including any garden furniture sets.  ADNFCR-3488-ID-800014042-ADNFCR
