Brits to leave ?4bn worth of garden furniture unprotected this winter

14/09/2010 People in the UK are set to leave over £4 billion worth of garden furniture and other items outside and unprotected this winter, according to figures.

The More Than Garden Theft study found that Brits have become lapse in protecting their valuable backyard possessions.
Although they go to great lengths to protect the contents of their houses, the survey of 1,200 adults with gardens showed that this was not so when it came to the contents of their outdoor space.

The study found that 15 per cent of people place expensive items in an unlocked garden shed.

A total of 35 per cent do not take any security precautions at all, which is alarming considering the value of garden furniture.

According to the research, Brits are also opting for more inspirational styles of garden furniture instead of cheap and cheerful pieces. In many regions the average value of garden furniture was found to exceed £350.

More Than provides car, home, pet, travel and life insurance.
